Research in the department is diverse, ranging for example from the study of glucose transporters in parasites to the interactions between herpes simplex virus and host cells. This research leads to publication in prestigious journals such as Nature and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (PNAS). Labs in the department are funded primarily by the NIH and other government organizations through a competitive grant process.
