MMI graduate students are expected to present their research project in poster format during the poster sessions and happy hour. We will be setting up posters in the morning between 10:00am – 10:45am. As seen on the above schedule, there are two poster sessions: 12:00 – 1:30pm and 3:00 – 3:50pm. Posters will stay up for the entirety of the day including happy hour. Your presentation time will be given to you the day of the retreat so be prepared to present at either time. Please send the title of your poster to  by April 19th, 2017.

  • Coffee and poster set-up, 10 a.m.
  • Opening remarks, 10:45 a.m.
  • We will end the day with a happy hour from 5:10-7 p.m.
  • If you are presenting a poster, please arrive in time to put your poster up.

Presentations should be no longer than 15 minutes with a 5 minute Q&A to follow. A strict adherence to this will be followed.

All slides should be submitted as PowerPoint files. You can upload these to our MMI & VGTI presentations Box folder by Monday, April 24th, to allow time for troubleshooting from the presentation computer. There are folders here named for each presenter.
Any video or audio clips should be uploaded or embedded with the presentation. You may want to set these clips to play automatically or on slide advance (for use with remote).

Please contact  with technical questions or to test your presentation ahead of time, on the Mac that will be used at the retreat.

Maximum poster size is 4'x4’. Posters should be hung in Cheatham Hall upon arrival at the World Forestry Center. Pins will be available. You are expected to present your poster during the entire poster session.

Guest Speaker

Our guest speaker this year is Matt Barber, Ph.D. of the Institute of Ecology and Evolution at University of Oregon. Dr. Barber will be speaking from 2-3 p.m. His presentation title is The Evolutionary Battle for Iron. Read more about Dr. Barber's research here.
