Background
Amy Eshleman received her Ph.D. in Toxicology at Oregon State University in 1990. She did postdoctoral research in the labs of Moshe Eldefrawi at the University of Maryland Baltimore Campus and with Aaron Janowsky at OHSU. She joined the OHSU faculty as a Lecturer with the Dept of Pharmacology, and is currently on the faculty of the Depts of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience.
Research Interests
neurotransmitter transporters, especially their interactions with psychostimulants
dopamine receptors
protein trafficking
therapeutics for drug and alcohol abuse
parkinsons
Summary of Current Research
The primary area of Dr. Eshleman's research is the interactions between biogenic amine transporters and cocaine and methamphetamine. As part of this focus, Dr. Eshleman collaborates with other OHSU researchers to characterize possible therapeutics for stimulant abuse and relapse, including interactions with biogenic amine transporters, and dopamine and serotonin receptors. Dr. Eshleman is characterizing the pharmacology and biochemical effects of psychoactive substituted tryptamine and phenethylamines. In addition, Dr. Eshleman collaborates with several OHSU researchers to identify neurotransmitter transporters and receptors expressed by bone cells, and the effect of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors on bone density and health.
