We are actively involved in the genetic analysis of a variety of diseases and traits common to both human and non-human primates.  Using a large, pedigreed rhesus macaque colony, along with llife long medical records, we are investigating the genetic contributions underlying naturally occuring complex traits, such as of macular degeneration, obesity, obsessive-compulsive disorder, osteoarthritis and endometriosis.  In addition, we are studying population variation between rhesus macaques and cynomolgus macaques from different regions throughout Asia.  These studies have identified genes likely to contribute to the phenotypic differences seen between these closely related animals, including behavioral traits and host-resistance to certain pathogens.
