Summary of Current Research
My research interests involve inflammatory diseases of the auditory system. One area of focus is the impact of systemic immune diseases on cochlear function and how therapeutic steroids reverse these forms of hearing loss. We study hearing loss in mouse models of spontaneous autoimmune disease, as well as mice in which hearing loss is secondary to immune system dysfunction. We also are investigating the immune processes of middle ear disease (otitis media) and how this inflammation impacts the inner ear.
