Dr. Halina Offner is a Professor in the Department of Neurology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon with a joint appointment in the Department of Anesthesiology and Peri-Operative Medicine.

Dr. Offner’s research interests include multiple sclerosis, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), influence of sex hormones on autoimmunity, neuroimmunology, and stroke. Her work is extensively published, with over 250 articles and book chapters in press.  She is the well-funded Principal Investigator on several National Institutes of Health- and National Multiple Sclerosis Society-funded grants. She is a long-term grant reviewer for both organizations and a frequent and sought-after manuscript reviewer for a large number of national and international journals. Dr. Offner is dedicated to the training of future leaders and investigators in the neurosciences, having mentored and trained over 19 postdoctoral fellows in the course of her career. She is a frequent speaker and participant at national and international symposia.

Dr. Offner received her M.Sc. degree from the University of Lodz, Poland in Biochemistry (Enzymology) in 1969 and graduated from the University of Copenhagen Medical School in 1976 with one of the only two Dr. Med. degrees ever awarded by that institution.  The focus of her doctoral studies was the immunology of multiple sclerosis.  In 1984, she relocated to Oregon and joined the faculty at OHSU. In 1994 Dr. Offner was awarded the prestigious Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award for her nationally and internationally recognized work in the neurosciences.
