Graduate Studies Faculty
Charles Lopez, MD, PhD
Programs:Cell & Developmental Biology
Program in Molecular & Cellular Biosciences
Research Interests:Our interests focus on the molecular mechanisms underlying tumor cell sensitivity to genotoxic stress. We are using both in vitro and in vivo model systems to study the pathways modulating p53 mediated apoptosis. » Click here for more about Dr. Lopez's research

Academic & Clinical Positions
- Assistant Professor of Medicine, School of Medicine
In 1990 Dr. Lopez earned his Ph.D. in Cell Biology/Endocrinology and in 1991 his medical degree from the University of California at San Francisco. He received his residency training at the University of California Medical Center in San Franciso and completed his Medical Oncology fellowship at the Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, Ca.
Dr. Lopez`s clinical area of interest is gastrointestinal oncology. His basic research interest is in cellular and molecular mechanisms of tumor cell response to therapy. By studying these complex mechanisms, he ultimately hopes to identify molecular targets for novel cancer therapies. His clinical focus is in the area of gastrointestinal oncology and he is actively involved in clinical trials for a variety of GI malignancies.
