Summary of Current Research
My research focuses on mechanisms underlying neuronal and synaptic remodeling that occur during development and in response to injury or inflammation. Projects have ranged from investigating the steroid influences on motor neuron remodeling in the moth Manduca sexta to identifying mechanisms underlying synaptic growth at the neuromuscular junction of the larval fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. In recent collaborative work with Dr. Curtis Machida, projects have focused on the potential role of herpes viruses in exacerbating the symptoms of pulpitis and periapical absesses in human teeth.
