Application Procedures
Department of Science and Engineering
Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Environmental Science & Engineering.
Submit the following:
- Completed online OHSU application form. The application is valid for one year from date of submission. A separate application is required for each program.
- $65 non-refundable application fee per application. The application fee must be paid online at the time the application is submitted using a Mastercard or VISA.
- Official transcripts from each college or university attended. The transcripts must arrive in a sealed envelope and should be mailed directly to the Office of Graduate Studies. Transcripts must be in English or accompanied by a certified English translation.
- Three letters of recommendation, minimum -- each accompanied by the recommendation letter form and signed by the author. Letter writers should mail their letters directly to the Office of Graduate Studies or e-mail the scanned recommendation letter request form and recommendation letter (on original Letterhead with signature) to lorgrad@ohsu.edu as a .pdf document. Alternatively, the letter may be provided to the applicant in a sealed envelope, with the signature of the reference across the back flap, for delivery. Unsealed Letters of Recommendation will not be accepted from the applicant. We are unable to accept unsigned letters of recommendations from references.
- Official GRE scores sent directly to us from the Educational Testing Services (ETS).The institutional code for OHSU is 4865(Oregon Hlth Sci U Sch Medicine, some tests may list as University of Oregon School of Medicine)
- Official TOEFL scores (if applicable), sent to us directly from the Educational Testing Service. The institutional code for OHSU is 4865 (Oregon Hlth Sci U Sch Medicine, some tests may list as University of Oregon School of Medicine)

Application Due Dates
For most programs, applications are considered on a year-round basis, although the majority of admissions are made for fall term. PhD applications received by the end of the first week of January for fall quarter receive priority review for admission and financial support. We will notify all PhD applicants (with complete applications) of admission decisions by March 15, and expect students to give us notification of acceptance by April 15.
Recommended dates for MS application submission:For Fall Quarter: applications due by July 15; international students by May 15
For Winter Quarter: applications due by October 15; international students by September 5
For Spring Quarter: applications due by January 15; international students by December 1
For Summer Quarter: applications due by April 5; international students by March 1
Start Date
The academic year formally begins in September and students are encouraged to start the academic program at that time. However, mid-year admissions may be offered. Generally, PhD students are admitted for fall quarter and as full-time students.
