Outstanding Preceptor of the Year 2017
Congratulations to Katie Dodd, MS, RDN, CSG, LD, FAND, for receiving the 2017 NDEP Outstanding Preceptor Award!
Katie Dodd has served as a preceptor with the OHSU Dietetic Internship for the past 6 years, dedicating over 1,500 hours to interns. Katie is also a leader in the field of nutrition and dietetics throughout Oregon. She currently serves as President of the Oregon Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and was just selected as the Chair-Elect of the Healthy Aging dietetics practice group. Katie has served as treasurer of the Oregon Academy, and professional development director, social media chair, and nominating chair of the Healthy Aging Dietetic Practice Group. At the national level, Katie participates on the Commission on Dietetic Registrations Board Certified Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition Exam development meetings as a subject matter expert.
Our interns shared that Katie has been an inspiration in leadership and that her passion for nutrition and dietetics can be seen in everything she does. She is flexible, understanding and kind. She has not only served as a preceptor, but as a mentor and role model to our interns. Her mentorship has created lasting relationships with students that have led to their success in the field of nutrition. Working with an RD who is passionate and extremely involved in various roles in both dietetics and leadership has motivated students to realize their full potential and see what is possible. Through time spent with Katie, interns were able to increase their skills and confidently see their own potential as future RDNs. Overall, having Katie Dodd as a preceptor has allowed her interns to see past the walls of a single rotation and work nationally and throughout the state of Oregon.
In receiving this award, Katie will be provided funding to attend the 2017 Food and Nutrition Conference &Expo in Chicago (FNCE), and will be recognized at the NDEP Member Breakfast as well as featured at the Academy Member Showcase.
Our congratulations to Katie Dodd and a huge thank you to all of our amazing preceptors! Without your dedication to the field and commitment to the OHSU Dietetic Internship, our program would not exist.
Happy National Preceptor Month!
