Welcome 2017 Incoming DIs and MS/DIs!
Welcome Dietetic Internship class of 2018 and Master of Science and Dietetic Internship class of 2019!
Our students kicked off the new academic year with many fun and exciting opportunities to get to know one another, the program, OHSU, and the Portland metro area. The new students learned more about OHSU student resources and ethics and scope of practice for RDNs, participated in an interactive food insecurity session, refined motivational interviewing skills, and had a fun scavenger hunt across the OHSU campus.
One of the major highlights to our orientation week this year was attending a Farm Tour throughout the Willamette Valley with our partners at the Oregon Dairy and Nutrition Council and Oregon AgLink. We visited the North Willamette Extension Research Center, the NW Hazelnut Company, Pearmine Farms, and Mann's Guernsey Dairy. Throughout the day we learned about sustainability, processing methods, technology advancements, and the nutritional value of foods produced in the Willamette Valley and how that contributes to the healthy, thriving communities in Oregon. Some of the highlights included taste testing different varieties of blackberries and hand-picking broccoli straight out of the field. Thank you to our partners for sharing this experience with our students! We all had a wonderful time!
