Dr. Choi elected a Fellow of the American Statistical Association
Dongseok Choi, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Public Health & Preventive Medicine, has been elected as a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA).
Forty-eight of this year's ASA members were elected as Fellows of the Association for their outstanding professional contributions to and leadership in the field of statistical science. Dr. Choi was nominated and received this award for his excellent contributions to statistical methods in bioinformatics and spatial modeling, collaborative biomedical research, superb service to statistical profession, and his contribution to creating new biostatistics education programs at OHSU.
Dr. Choi is a biostatistician with primary interest in statistical modeling of various data in medicine and biology. In addition, he has interests in statistical genomics/proteomics, ophthalmology, environmental health problems and researches in spatial-temporal models.
He will be presented with his award at the San Diego Convention Center during the Joint Statistical Meetings awards ceremony.
The ASA, a scientific and educational society founded in Boston in 1839, is the second oldest continuously operating professional society in the United States. The designation of Fellow has been a superlative honor in ASA for more than 90 years. According to the association by-laws, each year the Committee on Fellows can elect no more than one-third of one percent of the total ASA membership as Fellows.
