Christy Bethell, Ph.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., a professor in the department of pediatrics, has received the 2012 National Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology Award for Leadership. The highly coveted award recognizes individuals and/or organizational teams from a variety of disciplines who have made a substantial contribution to advancing the knowledge base aimed at improving the health of women, children and families.
"This is a very meaningful honor for Dr. Bethell, and extremely well deserved," said Robert Steiner, M.D., a professor in the department of Pediatrics. "We are delighted that her important work towards improving the health of children has been singled out for this prestigious honor."
Previous awardees included such luminaries as William Hollinshead III, Rhode Island Department of Health; Jose Cordero, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and Peter van Dyck, Health Resources and Services Administration, Maternal and Child Health Bureau Director.
