Since 2008, OHSU's Professionals' Training in Global Health (PTGH) course has offered training to mid and late-career health professionals wanting to volunteer overseas in low income countries.

PTGH is the only global health course in the United States to offer both a tropical medicine curriculum and re-training in primary care. As a result of the training they have received, 32 graduates have made 81 trips to deliver care in 32 countries.

For the first time the curriculum, which re-trains providers in the essential skills needed to deliver primary care in developing areas, is being offered online through real-time video-conferencing and archive streaming.

The new format allows those living outside the Portland area, as well as heavily-scheduled local providers, to complete the course in their own timeframe.
