Pediatric Dentistry

The Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at OHSU provides dental care for children between the ages of four and twelve. Care is provided by dental students with the supervision of dentists and residents experienced in pediatric dental care.

Children must be cooperative and not have any major medical conditions in order to receive student care. Children with more complicated treatment or behavioral needs may be seen in the graduate clinic by dentists who are training to be specialists in pediatric dentistry. If you don't know how your child will accept treatment, make an appointment and we will determine if care is feasible. Children who come to our clinic and cannot be treated by one of our students will either be referred to a pediatric resident, dentist on the faculty, or one in the community. Children who require care from other specialties (e.g. orthodontics, oral surgery) will also be referred.

Children accepted for care will be assigned to one dental student. The student will contact you to arrange an appointment for your child during one of the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic sessions. Appointments will generally last one and a half to three hours. Faculty instructors supervise all treatments provided by the students.

If you wish to register your child for treatment at the Pediatric Dental Clinic, please call our Patient Reception Center at 503-494-8867

Orthodontics

The OHSU School of Dentistry's Orthodontic clinic is committed to providing the highest quality orthodontic treatment for children and adults. Services are provided for correction of relatively minor to the most severe orthodontic problems. To become a patient, we have screenings (initial exams or consultations) for orthodontic treatment throughout the year. For more information on screenings and patient select, please look here:

In some situations, full braces are not necessary and limited treatment will provide a satisfactory result. When you have a screening appointment, the doctor will recommend if full braces or limited treatment is best for you or your child.
