Dental Care for Children

OHSU School of Dentistry students and pediatric dentistry residents provided service at several community events in February, as part of National Children’s Dental Health month.

On Feb. 21, fourth-year dental students and pediatric dentistry residents placed sealants on three dozen second-graders from Buckman Arts Elementary School in Portland.

“It’s a great experience to do good work for kids,” said fourth-year dental student Blake Mulgrew, of the school’s 2014 Sealant Day. “I’m happy to do it.”

The following day, dental students from all classes, along with pediatric dentistry residents, screened children and young people at Reynolds Middle School in Fairview, as part of the Multnomah Dental Society’s Children’s Health Fair. Dental students also provided oral hygiene instructions, and several dozen of the screened children received sealants from fourth-year dental students and pediatric residents in the Medical Teams International van.
