New Year Off To Exciting Start For Dental School
January 25, 2013
Dear School of Dentistry community,
Happy New Year! We kicked off 2013 in grand style with top-out of our new facility on Portland’s South Waterfront.
A little more than a year ago, the first shovels broke ground on the OHSU/OUS Collaborative Life Sciences Building, which houses our new dental school. I am astounded by how much progress has since been made on our new building! The project has been on a very aggressive timeline from the start and I am happy to report that we remain on schedule and on budget.
Reaching the 12th floor of the new OHSU School of Dentistry, located on the north side of the OHSU/OUS Collaborative Life Sciences Building, is a special milestone because it marks the halfway point of the building’s construction. Yes, we are moving in the summer of 2014!
In the next few months, the rest of the exterior “skin” will be put into place and then interior sheet-rocking will begin. The atrium—located in the center portion of the building for student lockers, retail, and our new, state-of-the-art 200-plus seat lecture hall— will take shape by May.
The mid-point of a new dental school is only possible with support from loyal alumni and friends. We are lucky to have such generous dental partners, including our lead donors Bonnie and Gene, D.M.D. `68, Skourtes, ODS Health, A-dec, Inc., Oregon Dental Association, Oregon Academy of General Dentistry, and so many more. Thanks to everyone who has made a gift; we wouldn’t be here without you. As of Dec. 31, we had $31,628,563 in gifts and pledges, nearly 75 percent of the way toward our $43 million campaign goal.
In the coming months, we are planning a series of new building events for dental faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends. Please stay tuned for details. We can’t wait to show you our new home!
