The field of contemporary endodontics is replete with numerous innovations that increase the ease of treatment but also the level of satisfaction of the practitioner. However, it is often confusing to know how to differentiate gimmicks and gadgets from the truly innovative tools and techniques.

This comprehensive 5-session series is designed to familiarize the general practitioner with contemporary and modern endodontic principles, materials and techniques. Both didactic and hands-on programs will present innovative perspectives and elevate each participant's perception of the practice of endodontics.  Above all, the course is designed to be clinically relevant by providing participants with day-to-day clinical tips and tricks.
 
The series begins with a one-day lecture on Saturday, January 22, 2011.  This is followed by four Saturday, hands-on sessions.  To enhance one-on-one learning experience, attendance for the hands-on sessions is limited to 12 participants. Instruments and materials will be provided. Concurrent use of the Dental Operating Microscope will be made available.

Dr. Nguyen provides the experience and credentials one can count on. He earned his Bachelor degree in Dental Sciences in 1997 from the Catholic University of Louvain, in Brussels, Belgium. He subsequently earned his Certificate in Clinical Endodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry degree in 2001 from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH.  Dr. Nguyen was a full-time Assistant Professor in the Department of Endodontics at the University of Maryland from 2001 to 2004 and Oregon Health and Science University from 2004 to 2008. He currently practices out of his multi-location office in Beaverton, Newberg, Portland and Woodburn.

In this one-day lecture, Dr. Nguyen will review established, proven techniques and protocols spanning over the entire spectrum of Endodontics. Additionally, he will also discuss recent improvements in various areas of Endodontics. Among others, topics will include the following:
•  Diagnosis: Pitfalls and stepping-stones to accurate pulpal/periradicular diagnoses - Diagnosis and management of the "cracked tooth syndrome"
•  Emergency: reliable anesthesia of "hot teeth" and other protocols for effective pain control
•  Access: techniques for safe access into calcified canals
•  Cleaning: improved steps to further disinfection of the apical third
•  Shaping: successful strategies for safe and efficient use of various rotary NiTi systems (Vortex, GTX, Protaper, Twisted File, K3 and Profile)
•  Obturation: warm-gutta percha obturation techniques (Calamus, Elements Obturation Unit, Carrier-based Obturation Techniques, and Gutta -percha Compactors)
•  Key elements to a trustworthy and reliable apex locator
•  Endodontic applications of Mineral Trioxide Aggregate or MTA
•  Prevention and solutions to iatrogenic mishaps
•  Applications of digital imaging and "paperless" technologies

Endodon...Tricks - 

    Hands-on Strategies & Solutions for Enhanced Success

       Saturdays:  February 5, March 5, April 2, & May 7, 2011

This "a la carte" four-session hands-on clinical workshop is designed to further familiarize the general practitioner with clinical step-by-step protocols and an entire array of newly developed systems and materials.  These sessions will provide participants with the level of exposure and experience that they need and the knowledge of which innovations to integrate in their own offices.  An on-line forum of Q&A's will allow problem solving of case-specific quandaries.  Attendance is limited to 12 participants to enhance one-on-one learning experience.  Instruments and materials will be provided.  Concurrent use of the Dental Operating Microscope will be made available.  For detailed information on the content of the hands-on workshops, please go to www.tcdendodontics.com

In-office On-site Visit - This bonus part of the curriculum is designed to expose participants to Dr. Nguyen's practice environment.  All newly learned systems and protocols will be brought to life through live patient treatment and one-on-one contact with Dr. Nguyen's staff.  Observe the "Endo dance" that Dr. Nguyen and his staff accomplish each day and see how they maximize efficiency while optimizing treatment quality and results!
