Implant Therapy for the Contemporary Clinician: Enhancing Success in the Aesthetic Zone

with Sam El-Ebrashi, BDS

     Saturday, January 8, 2011

Evidence based dentistry has proved the efficacy of dental implants in all quadrants of the mouth, whether in an edentulous patient, or a partially edentulous patient. Predictable treatment of compromised patients depends on comprehensive treatment planning, using the TEAM approach. The type of implant restoration and the use of a delayed or immediate approach have further complicated the treatment planning process.

This presentation will emphasize the selection of the appropriate patient for implant therapy, and will discuss the pros and cons of traditional treatment vs Implant treatment. The restorative-driven approach to guide and enhance surgical and soft tissue procedures will be discussed in detail. Implant therapy using single and multiple implants will be emphasized, with particular interest in the aesthetic zone. Recent developments in materials and CAD-CAM technological advances will be discussed. Both diagnostic, and treatment failures will be shown. A treatment planning sequence will be discussed, focusing on a combined restorative / surgical / technical TEAM.

The following topics will be covered:
(1)     Aesthetic diagnosis, periodontal biotype and its influence upon soft tissue form
(2)     Soft tissue considerations: papilla presence & predictability of soft tissue response
(3)     Healing after extractions: how to predictably maintain soft tissue volume
(4)     Implant surfaces: Immediate implant placement and temporization
(5)     Contemporary abutment materials &CAD-CAM applications in clinical practice.
