Care & Maintenance of Dental Implants (AM)

Friday Morning, April 30, 2010 with Keith Rossein, DDS

This lecture will discuss in-office maintenance/recall and home care regimens for patients with dental implants. Compared to individuals with natural teeth, a varied approach must be taken because of the difference in soft tissue attachment, the biophysical nature of the titanium implants and the psychology of the patient population needing implant therapy. Both clinical and home care oral hygiene products will be discussed and evaluated as well as techniques to accomplish these tasks. With an aging population and implant treatment becoming more routine, long-term success can be achieved with appropriate understanding, motivation, teaching and compliance for both dental practitioners and patients.

Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:
•  Identify causative factors of peri-implantitis;
•  Describe the gingival, connective tissue and bone relationship to dental implants;
•  List types of oral hygiene devices and products for implant patient use;
•  Teach home care techniques to patients with dental implants;
•  Describe the procedures for assessing peri-implant tissue health;
•  Devise a protocol for an implant maintenance recall appointment.

This lecture presentation is designed for dentists, hygienists, assistants.
