Healthy Smiles is a mobile dental program that provides preventative dental services primarily to schoolchildren from schools throughout Nevada County. The clinic sees children at their school during school hours and refers to a primary dentist for follow up care where needed.
In addition, the program provides full service dentistry to other underserved populations such as the homeless and at-risk teenagers. The program is very popular and is much appreciated by the schools and children we serve.
We are looking for a licensed dentist who is willing to take over the program from the current director who is retiring. The mobile portion of the program takes place on school days during classroom hours and can be supplemented with clinic days at the main clinic on Tyler Foote Road above Nevada City if desired. The person selected must be a good clinician who is also a good program administrator who can represent the program to various groups in the community. The clinic is a 30 foot motor home and must be driven to various groups sites and be provided with regular maintenance such as refueling, propane, water, etc. There is a dental assistant employed by the clinic to assist the dentist in scheduling as well as clinical duties. During the school year, the van visits over 20 schools and sees about 1,800 children for 2 to 3 visits each. Typically, the program required about 25 hours of patient care and 5 hours of administrative time per week with summers and school holidays off. Compensation is by the hour and comparable to other community clinics in the area.
