Managing citations and streamlining the process of academic paper writing can simplified through the use of a reference management tool. Many of these tools work with word processors to produce in-text citations and bibliographies in a variety of formats such as APA, Vancouver, JAMA, and others.
Tools Supported by the OHSU Library
RefWorks is a web-based bibliography and citation manager that is free to current OHSU students, faculty and staff. RefWorks is similar in function to products such as EndNote, Reference Manager, and ProCite.
Refworks can be accessed from any OHSU workstation or from off campus using either OHSU network username and password or library barcode. You will need to sign up for an individual account the first time you use RefWorks. The library offers classes on how to effectively use this time-saving resource.
Endnote is available for purchase through the OHSU Bookstore. Unlike RefWorks, this popular tool is installed on one's computer. The OHSU Library does not provide free access to this resource, but we do provide training and consultation to current students, faculty and staff of OHSU.
Zotero is a free Firefox extension that provides reference management functionality coupled with modern web technologies such as tagging.
Google Scholar Citation
Google Scholar Citations allows one to track citations to publications, check who is citing your publications, and compute citation metrics.
Papers allows you to download, archive, and organize all your articles within a single application. It is only available for Mac users.
Mendeley is a free reference manager and social network that helps one organize research, collaborate with others and discover new research.
