CultureVision

10/29/10  Portland, Ore.

We've just added a database called "CultureVision" to the library databases page The hospital purchases CultureVision and makes it available to clinicians from within the electronic medical record…and now, we've been given permission to make it available to the entire OHSU community.

CultureVision
A database designed to help healthcare professionals overcome the uncertainty associated with cultural differences. Provides information from varying backgrounds on how to assist, support, and facilitate the patient's ability to regain or maintain the highest levels of independence and wellness.

It addresses issues related to different religions, ethnicities, physical abilities, and there's and LGBT section as well.

Some of the issues addressed are:

Concept of Health

Beliefs, Religion & Spirituality

Language & Communication

Family Traditions

Ethnomed
A similar, freely available resource you'll also find listed on the databases page is Harborview Medical Center's ethnic medicine website, Ethnomed, which contains medical and cultural information about immigrant and refugee groups, including patient education handouts in ten languages.
