Alex's first involvement in global health was working with Sudanese refugees helping them restart their lives in San Diego. One of the more important lessons he gained from that experience was how much we can learn from those we seek to help.
After coming to OHSU, Alex, along with many others, helped organize the local effort to raise awareness of global health issues through conferences and lectures. He also worked on petitioning the university to put more support behind the efforts that many of its trainees, staff and faculty were making in global health. He has done research on disparities among Latinos in the US and plans a career combining pediatrics and public policy.
