Statewide Palliative Care Conference

Conference Title: 'Fanning the Flames: Empowering Leaders in Palliative Care'
Keynote Speaker: Joan Teno, MD, MS
Dr. Teno completed medical school at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, her residency at Rhode Island Hospital and her Fellowship from Brown University. She also holds advanced degrees in Community Health with a specialty in Gerontology and Chronic Disease Epidemiology from Brown. She has devoted her career to understanding how to measure and improve quality of end of life care for vulnerable populations. Dr. Teno joined the division of general internal medicine and geriatrics at OHSU where she is expanding a program of research in the care of the seriously ill.

Madeline Brill Nelson Speaker Series in Ethics Education
Lecture Topic: 'Driving Without Brakes: Ethical Concerns with Teenage Decision Making in Healthcare'
Guest Lecturer: D. Micah Hester, PhD
Dr. Hester is the Chair of the Department of Medical Humanities and Bioethics at University of Arkansas for Medical Science (UAMS) as well as clinical ethicist at Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH). He has written extensively on the ethics of patient-professional relationships and end-of-life issues and has also concentrated on the education of ethics committee membership.
