Community Outreach
OHSU provides a variety of community support services including:
- OHSU & Your County- builds partnerships that enhance community-based care, serving Oregon's most vulnerable citizens and provide access to health care education. Through participation in outreach programs and partnerships that extend from urban neighborhoods to rural communities, OHSU's faculty, residents and students serve Oregon citizens.
- Oregon Rural Practice-based Research Network (ORPRN)- works with rural primary care clinicians to improve the health of rural Oregonians through community and practice-based clinical research.
- The Child Development & Rehabilitation Center (CDRC)- provides services for improving the lives of individuals with disabilities or special health needs through partnerships with individuals, families, communities, and public and private agencies.
- Oregon Institute on Disability & Development- supports the rights of the persons with disabilities to determine the course of their lives and to live as fully integrated, contributing members of their communities.
- Avel Gordly Center for Healing
The OHSU Avel Gordly Center for Healing is a multicultural, adult outpatient treatment clinic.
- One Sky Center- a National Resource Center for American Indians and Alaska Natives dedicated to improving prevention and treatment of substance abuse and mental health across Indian Country.
- Center for Coastal Margin Observation & Prediction (CMOP)- improves the diversity of the United States workforce in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines by encouraging participation by women, persons from Native American tribes, and others from underrepresented groups in all CMOP activities.
- OHSU Science Educations Opportunities- provides educational and community service opportunities to students, teachers and OHSU employees to increase science literacy throughout the region and inspire the next generation of health and science professionals.
- CURE Project- a program of research mentorship training at the OHSU Oregon Cancer Institute. It offers research experiences to students from socially and economically disadvantaged populations from the Portland metropolitan area.
- Equity Summer Research Program - The Graduate Programs in the School of Medicine offers an exciting opportunity for college students to spend 8 to 10 weeks working with faculty and graduate students in a research setting, learning new skills and gaining experience. Learn more
- OHSU Outreach & Education Programs- OHSU has 200 programs that enhance community-based care, serve Oregon’s most vulnerable citizens, increase access to healthcare education, and bring groundbreaking health research to rural communities.
- Dental Exploring Program- provides high school students with a general perception of what a career in dentistry is all about. Participating high school students come from diverse backgrounds, and many of them have successfully matriculated to dental school.
- Health & Science Engineering Career Conference- OHSU invites historically underrepresented college students interested in pursuing a career in health care and science professions to attend this annual educational and interactive conference
- Volunteer Services - at OHSU we recognize the valuable contributions made by our volunteers. We place volunteers in a variety of departments depending on their skills, interests and previous experience. Learn more about volunteer opportunities at OHSU.
