OHSU Strategic Goals
Strategy 1: Ensure that OHSU's policies and procedures are fully inclusive, welcoming and equitable for LGBTQ employees and visitors at OHSU
Strategy 2: Raise the visibility and support of OHSU and OHSU Pride in the LGBTQ community through community engagement

OHSU Pride History
In the fall of 2007, students, faculty, and staff from the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Dentistry began meeting in an effort to create a grass roots organization to represent lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals and their allies who make up the OHSU community. The goals were to build a sense of community at OHSU for LGBTQ employees and students, as well as to act as a source of visibility and advocacy for all LGBTQ individuals who interact with OHSU. Out of this effort emerged CHASM, the Coalition for Health and Affirmation for Sexual Minorities.
Since its inception, we have developed a website and a growing membership listserv, held monthly meetings open to anyone interested in participating, and promoted active engagement at OHSU and in the greater Portland community through our participation in the Portland Pride Parade, coordination of a university wide food drive, and sponsorship of various social events. Over the past three years, OHSU has grown its participation in the Pride Parade from approximately a dozen participants in 2008 to over ninety OHSU employees, students, and family members walking and supporting the community event in 2010. Additionally, we collected over 3,000 lbs of food for the Oregon Food Bank in the fall of 2010.
As membership and recognition has grown and our goals and objectives have developed, the natural evolution has been to move the group from an Affinity Group to a University sponsored Employee Resource Group, which aligns with OHSU diversity initiatives and goals and that ultimately supports all within and across OHSU and the community. Through implementation of best practices, retreat planning, and collaboration with the Diversity Advisory Council and other supporters, OHSU Pride has emerged as an LGBTQ Employee Resource Group ready to provide leadership in the arena of LGTBQ employee, student, and patient issues.
