“The OHSU environment enables me to learn from the best scientists in the world, not only about science but also about cultures and customs.”

Xuemei Wu, Ph.D.
Assistant Scientist
Oregon National Primate Research Center

Xuemei was born and raised in Northeast China. After receiving a Ph.D. degree in Physiology from Peking Union Medical College, she moved to Houston for her postdoctoral training at Baylor College of Medicine. Xuemei worked in University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas shortly before relocating to Oregon. At the Oregon National Primate Research Center, Xuemei researches issues of female reproduction. She enjoys working at OHSU because of the friendly and supportive environment, especially in her division.

Xuemei appreciates the diversity of her laboratory environment because it makes people more relaxed, more creative, and therefore more productive. She feels that she has become more open-minded through interactions with her diverse colleagues, and has learned from them about culture and customs as well as science. She believes that the OHSU environment will help attract and retain high quality employees and students and bring the university to a higher level in both academia and economy.
