Meet Robert Vieira, Diversity Advisory Council Member
“Among the strengths of our institution is the international make up of our faculty and staff. That has helped to provide me with a global perspective for my work which is critical in our increasingly globally connected world.”
Robert Vieira, Ed.D.
Vice Provost
Academic & Student Affairs
Bob grew up in Southern California, and attended UC Irvine. After graduating, he continued working with students at the university, which stimulated his graduate work in education. He went on to earn his M.Ed. from Oregon State University and his Ed.D. from Portland State University. His 30 year career in higher education began at Western Oregon University. He also served as Vice President and Vice Provost for Student Affairs at Portland State before joining OHSU eight years ago. As OHSU’s Vice Provost for Academic & Student Affairs, Bob manages student support services across the university, including: Registrar, Financial Aid, Health Services, Multicultural Affairs, Student Activities and the Bookstore. He also oversees operations which support academic programs and faculty, and provides leadership on university policy relating to students and academic programs. In addition to his work at OHSU, Bob has also served as the Executive Dean for the Institute for Shipboard Education’s Semester at Sea Program.
Bob enjoys working at OHSU because he "continues to be inspired by the work and commitment of the students and faculty." He also appreciates the international make up of the faculty and staff at OHSU, as it helps provide a global perspective for the work that he does. Bob believes that this diversity provides input and understanding of a range of opinions and perspectives, without which the university cannot expect to fully achieve its goals in our changing and increasingly diverse world and business environment.
