Meet Mariann Hyland, Diversity Advisory Council Co-Chair
Mariann Hyland, J.D., M.S.W.
Director, Affirmative Action & Equal Opportunity Department
Mariann is the Director of the Affirmative Action & Equal Opportunity Department (AAEO) at Oregon Health & Science University, where she promotes equal opportunity and compliance with laws prohibiting unlawful discrimination and harassment in education and employment. Her work in AAEO includes assisting employees with disabilities, including physical and mental impairments, in exploring reasonable workplace accommodations. Previously Mariann was with Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon as the Director of Public Safety, Risk Management and Contracts. Prior to Chemeketa, Mariann was in private practice with Stoel Rives in Portland, Oregon, where her practice emphasized labor and employment law and litigation. Mariann holds a BS and a JD from the University of Oregon, and an MSW from Portland State University. Her MSW practicum included working with psychiatric patients in the Emergency Departments of Legacy Good Samaritan and Meridian Park Hospitals. She served as a Commissioner on Oregon's Commission on Judicial Fitness and Disability for eight years, during which she reviewed and assessed complaints against state court judges alleging ethics violations. Mariann is a member of the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility Advisory Committee. She joined OHSU’s Ethics Fellowship program in 2009 and is developing expertise in biomedical ethics.
