“Diversity at OHSU allows an atmosphere of openness and tolerance in the university. This diversity of skills and experiences allows the institution to provide better services to its patients and helps overcome language and cultural barriers.”

Kevin Arce, D.M.D., M.D.
Assistant Professor, Residency Program Director
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Kevin was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Puerto Rico. He went Temple University for his D.M.D. and then to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN to earn his M.D. and certificate in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Before coming to OHSU, Kevin completed a fellowship at Legacy Emanuel Hospital and was clinical faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern - Parkland Hospital. In addition to being on the OHSU faculty, Kevin is also pursuing a master’s degree in clinical research in the Human Investigations Program.

Kevin’s favorite aspects of working at OHSU are the availability of institutional resources and ability of collaborating with other specialties in both patient care and clinical research. Working in a diverse environment allows Kevin to interact with patients, healthcare providers and staff of different ethnic groups, race, gender and tenure which provides cultural awareness and ethnic diversity. This environment supports Kevin’s efforts to advance patient care, as it allows for more cultural understanding between healthcare providers and their patients.
