Meet Jose Michael Dietrich-Leis
“There is really a sense that OHSU staff and employees care about patients and understand their problems. In my research, I have found no limit to the amount others are willing to contribute diverse and valuable opinions and information.”
Jose Michael Dietrich-Leis
Research Assistant
Center for Hematologic Malignancies
Michael grew up in Boston, MA and received an Honors B.S. in Business from University of Puget Sound. After working as a business strategy consultant in San Francisco and Portland, Michael joined OHSU to work on a project researching the variability of payer support for bone marrow transplants. His research aims to improve patients’ timely access to these expensive but potentially curative procedures that help patients with cancer and immune deficiencies.
Michael enjoys the friendly and collegial environment at OHSU. Also, the diversity of the university has been beneficial to him in his research because, “Without diversity of perspective, it becomes impossible to understand the big picture for all those involved.” He feels that OHSU has created an environment that provides a myriad of perspectives to benefit all those involved, whether staff, healthcare provider, student or patient.
