Meet John Ma, M.D.
“Without question, the best part of working at OHSU is the people. It is a pleasure working with such gifted, talented, and passionate people who bend over backwards to get along with everyone.”
John Ma, M.D.
Professor and Chair
Emergency Medicine
John grew up in Boulder, CO where he also attended the University of Colorado. He graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine and performed his residency training in emergency medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His first faculty position was at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He was then on faculty at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, before coming to OHSU in 2007, where he is Department Chair of Emergency Medicine.
John has many goals for the advancement of his department at OHSU, including: delivering high quality, compassionate health care; providing innovative and evidence-based education and training; performing clinical and health care systems research that helps improve the practice of emergency medicine; and being influential in local, regional, and national emergency medicine academic and political activities. He appreciates being able to work towards these goals with the talented, passionate, and cooperative colleagues he has found at OHSU. He also believes that a campus which is diverse in students and faculty creates a culture of excellence. It enhances an environment that is vibrant with energy and is ripe for an open exchange of ideas.
