“The progressive, diverse and welcoming nature of Portland and OHSU has allowed for my full development as a physician, researcher and person.”

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics
Medical Director of Pediatric Blood and Bone Marrow Transplantation
Pediatrics, Hematology/Oncology

Dr. Eneida Nemecek grew up in Puerto Rico, where she earned a B.S. in Biology and a M.D. at the University of Puerto Rico. Her postgraduate training included a residency at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital and a fellowship at Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center. She then pursued an M.S. in Epidemiology from the University of Washington, where she was also an instructor in the Department of Pediatrics. In 2005, Dr. Nemecek joined the OHSU faculty where she specializes in pediatric bone marrow transplantation for the treatment of cancer and other disorders affecting the blood. She is involved with several local and national clinical trials, and her research focus is on devising methods to improve the outcome of blood and marrow transplantation. She also directs a program which facilitates the collection of cord blood units for public donation.

Dr. Nemecek’s favorite aspect of working at OHSU is being able to make positive contributions to her patients and the community. Working in a diverse environment helps her make those contributions because, “the collegiality and welcoming environment at OHSU and our city allow me to feel free to create new ideas and advocate for changes.” She also considers it a personal responsibility to contribute to the diverse environment of OHSU and Oregon by teaching the community about her experience as a Puerto Rican woman in the field of medicine and biomedical research.
