Content Management
What is CommonSpot?
CommonSpot is OHSU’s enterprise content management system. It provides web managers with tools for creating, publishing and managing web pages without the need for special software or technical training. Web sites can be designed without any HTML or web programming knowledge, so you can distribute the writing and publishing of website content across your organization.
CommonSpot can help you:
- Build a dynamically updated web site in weeks, not months
- Empower non-technical staff to easily publish content directly to the Web
- Reduce ongoing operational costs for managing Web content
- Keep your web site fresh and up-to-date
- Enforce a consistent ‘look and feel’ throughout your site
- Control who can edit, access and view content securely
- Comply with Section 508 accessibility guidelines
- Integrate external applications within your site
- Adhere to institutional guidelines for web publishing
CommonSpot offers authoring and editing tools similar to those offered in Microsoft Word. Content can be copied and pasted directly from other applications, preserving all formatting and automatically converting content to HTML. Content can be edited right within the web page, by any non-technical contributor. Site updates are automatically published for you. CommonSpot also allows you to build in workflow and provides tools for collaborative editing.
What skills or training do I need?
To use CommonSpot, you’ll need to become an OHSU web manager and attend training. You can complete this training at OHSU or with a number of certified training institutions across the country. There is currently a waiting list for OHSU’s classes. There are no other pre-requisites for using CommonSpot.
