Analytics (WebTrends)
What are web analytics?
Web servers record all the activity on a site in a log file—a text file containing records of who visited, when they visited, the path they took through your site, and which pages they looked at when they were there. You use data sources to specify the location of log files so that analytics software can analyze and report on your web server activity. There are a number of web analytics tools available, but OHSU has selected WebTrends as our enterprise analytics solution.
With WebTrends, you can analyze and report on this data to get the information that you need, including:
- how many people visit your site,
- which pages on your site are the most popular,
- how your Internet advertising is paying off, and
- what time of day you should perform server maintenance.
How do I get WebTrends for my site?
Please note that at this time, we are not setting up new user accounts for WebTrends. This spring, we will be implementing a new installation for WebTrends that will improve many of the features available. If you need metrics for your website in the meantime, contact us at webadmin@ohsu.edu and we can help set up your site with Google Analytics.
