Event Calendar
A Single Source for OHSU events
Web Strategies is currently investigating options for a calendar for OHSU that could simplify the process of both publishing and learning about the many events that occur around the campus. A complete OHSU calendar solution will both make information easier to find as well as help reduce email clutter.
At the moment, there are many different calendars in use around OHSU, but there are none that bring all of that information together. A complete event calendar can aggregate all of the listings and provide an easy-to-interface for searching for the events that are most relevant.
There are a number of different possible solutions, but any event calendar that we adopt would:
- Create customized filters that could be used on departmental sites
- Have an easy, intuitive interface for adding events
- Have an easy, intuitive interface for viewing and filtering events
- Add an event once and have it seen in multiple places
- Provide options for subscribing so users could populate their personal calendars (in Outlook)
- Allow the possibility of "pushing" information to email or RSS for changes and updates
- Work well with the other OHSU information systems, such as room scheduling
Project Planning
Once the requirements of the calendar have been decided on and reviewed by stakeholders around the OHSU campus, the top three or four options will be analyzed, including a possible open source solution, a commercial enterprise solution as well as custom developing an application here at OHSU.
Because of the complex nature of the project and the urgency of getting a solution in place, this project will happen in phases. Look for more project information in the coming months.
