FAQ

What are site visitors searching for on my site?

How can I use this information?

If you have Endeca subsite search, you can use WebTrends analytics reports to see what site visitors are searching for on your website. (Not sure if this article applies to your website? See below.)

This information is invaluable: it lets you know if you have the right content for your audience and how easy it is to find. Web Strategies recommends looking at this data monthly and testing your top ten searches. For each search term or phrase, ask yourself:

  • Does my site have content for this search term? If not, should it?
  • Am I getting the results I expected?
  • Is there page metadata or page content I should add to make sure the right pages come up in search?

You may realize your site visitors are using different language than you expected to find content within your site. For example, you may have pages that discuss "times the hospital allows family members to see patients" but site visitors are only searching for "visiting hours."

This exercise may also help identify content that doesn't yet exist but would be useful to our audience.

Where are the reports located?

The analytics reports are located within your WebTrends profile.

How do I know if I have Endeca subsite search? Do I have WebTrends access?

Endeca subsite search is available to all public-facing OHSU websites. If you have a form in the left column of your site that says "Search {insert your site name}" you're using Endeca subsite search.
