Why can't I author in IE6 with CommonSpot 5.0?
With the upgrade to CommonSpot 5.0, OHSU web content contributors are not longer able to use IE6 to publish content to the OHSU web. Many users have wondered why this restriction is in place.
The official answer from PaperThin: As is well documented, IE 6 is notoriously bad at leaking memory, particularly due to circular references that include COM objects.
The good news is that IE 7 has made some significant improvements over IE 6, both in terms of performance and memory management. We noticed that IE 7 was about twice as fast as IE 6. A number of improvements to CSS, DOM and HTML support have been made.
Microsoft's stated goal with IE 7 was to fix the most significant bugs and areas which caused the most trouble for developers. IE 7 also introduced enhanced PNG support, and extended support for CSS Level 2.
