Frequently Asked Questions
Can I exclude portions of my CommonSpot site from OHSU search?
Yes, there are a few different ways to exclude CommonSpot pages from search results. There are also a number of page conditions that automatically exclude pages from search.
Endeca is OHSU’s enterprise-wide search engine for all public-facing web sites. Endeca searches most of OHSU’s websites for both the hospital and university.
Information Available to Endeca
The following data fields are integrated with Endeca search:
- Page name
- Page title
- Page caption
- Date added
- Date content last modified
- Public release date
- Description
- URL
- Keywords, from enforced, default and page specific lists
This information can be entered at the time of page creation and can be edited from the page properties dialogue.
Page content is not currently available to Endeca search. The new Unified Site templates will make this content available. All relevant keywords need to be entered in one of the fields above.
Excluding Pages
All CommonSpot pages are available for search by default, unless they meet one of these conditions:
- Pages marked as ‘Inactive’ (the green bar at the top of the page)
Author mode > document information
- Pages in a directory marked as ‘Inactive’
Site admin > parent directory of subsite > ‘x’ next to the subsite name > Inactivate
- Pages with a publication date in the future
Page properties > ‘Other’ tab > Publication Date
- Pages without a publication date
Page properties > ‘Other’ tab > Publication Date > ‘Clear’ button
- Pages marked as confidential, highly confidential, internal or unknown
Page properties > ‘Other’ tab > ‘Confidential’ drop down list
- Pages without ‘Read’ rights for anonymous users, or pages that sit in a directory without ‘Read’ rights for anonymous users
If you have a page you’d like to exclude from the search results that does not meet one of these conditions, you can manually set a CommonSpot page to be excluded in the page properties.
To flag a page as unavailable to search results:
- Page properties > ‘Other’ tab > Availability: uncheck ‘Search Results’
