OHSU

Network File Migration

Along with the move to Office 2007, and to Outlook 2007 for email, OHSU will also be migrating some of its network components to Microsoft products. You'll notice the difference most in these areas:
  1. X: drive  –  New look for drives and folders.
  2. After starting your computer, the login screen will look a little different.
  3. Links and shortcuts to places on the network will break, and will need to be re-created.

Minimum requirements

Computers connected to the OHSU network will need the following:

  • Windows XP
  • 1.6 GHz processor
  • 500 MB RAM – though we strongly recommend 1 GB of RAM
  • 13 GB hard drive

Windows 2000 is not supported

If you're running Windows 2000, have your department's network contact fill out a CAPS request and check the "consult" box. A field technical representative will advise you from there.

Testing is underway right now. The outcome of these tests will determine when the migration takes place. A rough estimate for the start of the network migration would be mid-July.

Top tips

  1. Save and close all open documents each night during the network migration (schedule coming - you'll also get an email notification).

Potential problem: If you've left a document open the night your account is migrated, you will get an error message later when you try to save the document. The document will remain open, but the error message pops up because the original location is gone.

Solution: If this happens you should save the document to your computer's desktop, restart your computer, and then move the document to its appropriate folder.

  2. Shortcuts and other links to network drives will break, and will need to be re-created after the migration.
