Network Migration

Why don't I see an  X: drive?
On Thursday, September 18th, ITG will be turning on the new X: drive for most users. However, if you fall into one of the following categories, you may not see this new drive:

  1. If you use a computer that is not managed by ITG. This is common in research areas.
  2. If you use a computer running a Macintosh operating system. If you need to access ITG network drives from a Mac, you will need to install the ADmitMac client available here: http://msdownload.ohsu.edu
  3. If you don't login to the ohsum01 domain. This is common in research areas.
  4. If your computer is part of an exclusion group. Some clinical area computers restrict network drive access.

If you have additional questions, please contact the ITG Help Desk at (503-494-2222) or helpdesk@ohsu.edu.

How do I get the X: drive on an OHSU computer that is not managed by ITG?

What differences will I see once we've migrated to an all-Microsoft network?
The changes will happen gradually. Shortcuts and other links to network drives will break, and will need to be re-created after the migration. Your network login will be a Microsoft login, not a Novell login. Eventually, drives and folders will be organized like this.

What are the benefits to migrating to an all-Microsoft network?
OHSU will have more compatibility with other organizations, and since there's a larger user base for Microsoft products, we'll have better integration with third-party products and more support for both users and network administrators.

Does this migration mean the print servers work faster?
The migration will not affect print servers.

Is this migration going to have any effect on VPN access?
No.

Will WTS (remote access) include Outlook?
Yes, Outlook 2007 is on Desktop 2.

Will SharePoint collaboration tools be available?
We are exploring this option; but most likely this is a future project and is currently out of the scope of the migration.
