Email and calendar

Will GroupWise for Mac work with the new email system?
No, once we migrate to the new Exchange environment, GroupWise will no longer be supported. Entourage 2004 and 2008 will be the preferred Mac email clients after we convert to Microsoft Exchange.

Will I be able to access my GroupWise archives from Entourage?
Email archives will be stored outside of the Exchange email system for both Mac and PC users.  Everyone will use a browser like Firefox (Safari is not supported) to access their GroupWise and Exchange archives via Archive Manager, a central archiving system for email and calendar items.  After the email migration, you'll be able to access your archived GroupWise and Exchange items from any computer that is connected to the Internet - at home or at work. Each user will be asked to configure their own archives in the new environment.

Will my old calendar/appointments show up in Entourage?
Yes, with the exception of recurring appointments. They will not migrate. We encourage you to document your GroupWise settings to help with the email transition. Our settings workbook will help you determine which settings will migrate and which will need to be recreated in the new environment.

What versions of Mac OS will be supported in the new Exchange email environment?
All OS X versions will be supported, provided Entourage 2004 or 2008 are installed.

Software

Our department has Macs running clinical applications that only function on older versions of the operating system [10.3.x or earlier]. Is this going to be a problem?
At this time we do not have a solution for older operating systems to access the new Microsoft file system. The third-party solution we are rolling out to the Mac community is only compatible with OS X 10.4 and higher.

Does Endnote work with Office 2008?
Endnote is now compatible with Office 2008. A free update is now available for EndNote X1 users who have Microsoft Word 2008.

Does OHSU have a site license for Office 2008? If so, how do I get it?
Yes, any device purchased with OHSU funds, including grant funds can run it. Get Mac software.

Will my Classic applications be able to access network resources?
No, OS 9 is not a supported OS in the new Microsoft environment.

When will an OHSU XP image be available for Boot Camp?
Boot Camp is currently not supported by ITG.

Does OHSU have a site license for Parallels?
No. Licenses can be purchased from the OHSU Apple store.

Will Parallels users be upgraded to Office 2007?
FTS will update the Parallels image to reflect the latest PC image available. This will include program updates to Microsoft Office 2007 and, in the future, replacing GroupWise with Outlook 2007. These images will be available to all licensed Parallels users.

Network

What versions of Mac OS will be supported in the new Microsoft network file system environment?
OS 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard).

What is the oldest Mac hardware that will be supported in the new network environment?
G4 - Single Processor 800Mhz or Dual Processor 768 Mhz.

How will I connect to what were formerly the Novell shares (H:, I:, J:, etc.)?
After the network migration, those with OS X 10.4.x and higher will be able to use the AdmitMac client. AdmitMac allows Mac users running Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, or Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (with the latest updates), to access all the directory services provided by Microsoft's Active Directory. AdmitMac allows Mac access based on domain credentials and provides support for local or network home folders.

Will domain authentication be available for Macs?
Yes, via the AdmitMac client.

Our department has Mac OS X servers. Will we now be able to join them to the domain so that we can use domain user authentication to those servers?
Users who'd like to add their Leopard server to Active Directory can submit an iStart request.

Will there be any change to the way Macs connect to network printers?
Macs will continue to connect to printers using IP addresses.
