About
Insurance Program Overview
OHSU uses a combination of self-insurance and commercial insurance to fund risk of loss. This combination has proven to be cost effective for managing our loss exposure.
OHSU funds its exposures to Medical Professional Liability, General Liability, and Auto Liability through its captive insurance company, OHSU Insurance Company (“INSCO”). Coverage is on a “claims-made” basis for claims arising from conditions or events subsequent to July 1, 1992.
INSCO was incorporated in Arizona on July 1, 2008. INSCO is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oregon Health & Science University, an Oregon statutory public corporation and political subdivision of the State of Oregon.
Other lines of insurance coverage, including Property, Cyber and Workers’ Compensation are provided by commercial insurers.
