Artist in Residence
Peter C. Horan
I am a fine art and landscape photographer living in Portland, OR. I have learned my craft by studying under a wide range of photographers whose work I admire. My "apprenticeship" as a photographer has included workshops with Jim Stimson, Seth Hamel, Jack Graham, Guy Tal, Gavriel Jecan, and Sean Fitzgerald. My work has appeared in Sierra Magazine and on the Sierra Club website among other places.
Approach and Philosophy
"Nothing is less real than realism. Details are confusing. It is only by selection, by elimination, by emphasis, that we get at the real meaning of things." - Georgia O'Keeffe
I have always drawn inspiration from this quote. Anyone with an iPhone can do a pretty good job of capturing the "facts" of a place. My goal is to use light and lines and space and color to share what I feel while I am at a particular place at a particular time. I find amazing and interesting things both in spectacular natural places and walking down the street in daily life.
