The Career and Workplace Enhancement Center exists to fulfill the mission and vision of the OHSU/AFSCME Labor Management Committee.
We are committed to providing OHSU staff with professional development, training opportunities, and organizational resources to be successful in their current positions or to move to the next level in their career at OHSU.
Nicole D’Onofrio, Center Manager, has been with OHSU since 2006 and assumed the role of the Center manager in September 2010. Prior to her current position, she worked as a Sr. Business Partner in Healthcare and managed the Organizational and Workforce Development team in Central Services HR. She has been in the fields of HR and Learning and Development since 2000. Her vision for the CWE Center is to provide professional learning and development opportunities that create satisfying and productive work environments and help employees meet their career aspirations at OHSU. Nicole moved to Portland from Baltimore, Maryland in 1999 and obtained her MBA from the University of Portland. Nicole enjoys skiing, hiking, cycling, “restauranting”, and reading by the fire on rainy days.
Kelli Byrd, Program and Outreach Coordinator, started working at OHSU in July 2008 as a program coordinator for the department of Service Excellence before moving to the CWE Center in 2009. She coordinates the English Language Learner and Professional Development Reimbursement programs. In her outreach efforts, Kelli hopes that every staff member at OHSU is not only aware, but utilizes, the CWE Center programs and services to enhance their careers and work environments. Kelli received her undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and holds an MBA with an emphasis in marketing from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. Kelli is a mother of twins.
Maighie Fitzgerald, Senior Trainer, joined OHSU in September 2011. She facilitates a variety of the CWE Center's general-learning opportunities, including the Emerging Leader Certificate Series. Maighie hopes to provide employees with skills that are practical and applicable in the workplace. Maighie holds an Ed.M. in Organizational and Human Resource Education from Oregon State University and a B.A. in Organizational Communications from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. Maighie enjoys exploring Oregon geography, eating tasty food, and relaxing with friends and family.
Mary Lind, Conflict Management Specialist, joined OHSU in December 2012. She offers a three-part Conflict Management Series and supports a team of professionally trained OHSU conflict coaches. Her classes and one-on-one coaching assist OHSU employees in addressing the challenges we all face as we work closely with others. Mary has taught and practiced conflict resolution in a variety of government, community and university settings, both locally and internationally. She holds two master's degrees: one in adult learning/conflict resolution from Portland State University; the other in peace education from the United Nations-mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica. She believes that conflict is a normal, inevitable and potentially constructive aspect of human interaction, resulting from differences that both challenge and enrich us. Mary is a fan of dinner parties, live storytelling and reading memoirs. She is also relishing the fun, challenging and deepening aspects of life with a preschooler.
Alison Lord, Workplace Performance Improvement Specialist, joined OHSU in March 2011. She trains OHSU employees on GE Change Acceleration Process (CAP), Lean, project management, and other workplace performance improvement methodologies. Alison graduated from the University of California at Davis with a degree in American Studies. She is experienced in health care operations, process improvement facilitation and employee training and development. Much of her career experience has been spent overseas in Guatemala, Mexico, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and Antarctica. Alison is a Master Change Manager in the GE Change Acceleration Process, certified in Lean Six Sigma, and speaks Spanish.
Matt Morscheck, MS, LPC, CMP, Career Development Specialist, joined OHSU in April 2011 and built the CWE Center's Employee Career Services program to promote an environment of career mobility within OHSU. A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Matt believes that career development is an important, but often-underestimated part of both creating a satisfying life and building a high-performing organization. Matt holds a master's degree in Counseling from Portland State University, with additional certifications and education in career development, business administration, and human resources. Matt grew up and went to college in the small town of Pullman, WA, home to Washington State University (GO COUGS!) and the National Lentil Festival, which celebrates the tasty little legume each August.
Chris Woods, Administrative Assistant, started his career at OHSU in January 2011. Chris is the glue that holds the CWE Center together. Before working at OHSU, Chris' previous position was with Bend Memorial Clinic, supporting the office of the medical director with clinical quality management. Chris attained a BA in History and French from combined studies at Linfield College, Point Loma Nazarene University, Central Oregon Community College, Oregon State University, University of Oregon, and six months abroad in France at L'Universite Catholique D'Ouest. Chris' wife is currently attending the OHSU School of Dentistry.
