BSN & APRN Students

After completing the primary modules detailed on the Welcome page, complete the additional modules that pertain to your clinical placement role.

All BSN and APRN roles listed will be granted Epic access. To begin this process, complete a virtual webinar or in-person training that is scheduled by OHSU. Many of the Epic courses are transitioning back to in-person sessions. Specific Epic course information will be provided by the OHSU Onboarding Coordinator during this transition. 

The modules listed below are searchable and self-assigned in Compass. 

BLS Certification Requirement

OHSU does not accept AHA RQI certification. Learners must obtain an AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification card.

BSN module requirements

 Select your rotation area to view the additional Compass modules and training requirements. 

Inpatient rotations complete:

  1. Epic Training Pre-work: Epic Training for Inpatient Nursing Students
  2. Omnicell Nurse Patient Care Training
  3. Glucometer - 2024 POCT Curriculum

In-person Epic training is required for Epic access. After completing the modules listed above and the primary modules, additional information on the training will be provided via email. 

  1.  An Epic class will be assigned to you in Compass. 
  2. In-person glucometer training is required. After completing the Glucometer module, search for the title: Glucometer Training For Visiting Nursing Students and register in Compass for a date/time to attend. 

Ambulatory rotations complete:

  1. Epic Training Pre-work: EpicCare for Ambulatory Nurses 
  2. Glucometer - 2024 POCT Curriculum

In-person Epic training is required for Epic access. After completion of the modules above and the primary modules, search and register for the course title below. Additional information about the training will be provided via email. 

  1. Epic Training for Ambulatory Nurses (Day 1 & 2) - register in Compass
  2. In-person glucometer training is required. After completion of the Glucometer module, search for the title: Glucometer Training For Visiting Nursing Students and register in Compass for a date/time to attend. 

OR rotations complete:

  1. Epic Training Pre-work: EpicCare for OpTime OR Nurses 
  2. Omnicell Nurse Patient Care Training

Periop rotations complete:

Additional access instructions will be provided via email.  

Network & Epic information

Network login and Epic class scheduling information will be provided to you directly via the email address your school Placement Coordinator provided to OHSU. Look for a secure email from MailGate SC. You will need to create a temporary account to view the email. Please see the directions provided to support you in this process: MailGate SC Job Aid

The email will also include an attachment with instructions indicating how to authenticate your OHSU Network ID during your first rotation. As needed, Omnicell instructions will be provided for authentication and login tips.

Epic access will be granted approximately 48-72 business hours after the successful completion of modules and in-person/live webinar training and/or within the first 48 hours of your rotation start date.  If you have completed the requirements and your rotation has started and you still do not have access, please contact the Epic Support Desk at epicsupp@ohsu.edu.

Omnicell

After the completion of the Omnicell Compass module and assessment, you will need to sign an attestation statement in Compass.  The attestation is required prior to receiving Omnicell access.  The Omnicell module requirement can be completed after your Epic training but should be completed before your clinical rotation start date.  Additional instructions about how to access Omnicell will be provided in a secure email from the OHSU Onboarding Coordinator. 

Missing a training

If you are late to, or miss the EpicCare and/or the Glucometer training, you will need to contact the OHSU Student Onboarding Coordinator to reschedule.  If you show up more than 10 minutes late, you may be required to take a longer or additional course. Epic training is required and you will not be allowed to start your clinical rotation without completing the required classes.

If you are late for an in-person Glucometer training that is before an Epic training, you can still attend the EpicCare session when it starts.  Please wait for the Glucometer class to be finished before entering the training room.
