OHSU names new university provost
06/30/11 Portland, Ore.
Following a lengthy national search process, Jeanette Mladenovic, M.D., M.B.A., M.A.C.P., has been named the new provost for Oregon Health & Science University. She is expected to join OHSU this fall.
Dr. Mladenovic comes to OHSU from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine where she currently serves as the senior associate dean. Prior to her arrival at the University of Miami, Dr. Mladenovic served in administrative posts at the State University of New York, the University of Colorado, the State University of New York at Stony Brook and the University of Minnesota. Her vast experience also includes health research.
Dr. Mladenovic received her bachelor’s and medical degrees from the University of Washington, completed training at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Stanford University, and obtained her M.B.A. at the University of Miami.
“I am incredibly excited to return to the Northwest and join OHSU,” said Dr. Mladenovic. “One of the projects that I greatly look forward to working on is the new OUS/OHSU Collaborative Life Sciences Building and the surrounding campus. It provides a unique opportunity for four nationally ranked professional schools and OHSU’s academic and research partners to work together to better prepare our future health care workforce.”
“Dr. Mladenovic is an excellent fit for OHSU in countless ways,” said OHSU President Joe Robertson, M.D., M.B.A. “Her lengthy experience at several academic health centers will be a true asset to all of us at OHSU. In speaking with her, I and others also recognize her deep appreciation for OHSU's mission to impact residents across the state of Oregon through healing, teaching and discovery.”
The hiring of a new provost follows the departure of longtime OHSU Provost Lesley Hallick, Ph.D., who left OHSU in 2009 to become the president of Pacific University. During the search period, David Robinson, Ph.D., has served as the interim provost.
“We also want to thank Dr. David Robinson for his outstanding work over the past months in serving the university as interim provost,” added Robertson. “David will continue with several of his current projects in his new role within the provost’s office upon Dr. Mladenovic’s arrival.”

Oregon Health & Science University is the state’s only health and research university, and only academic health center. As Portland's largest employer and the fourth largest in Oregon (excluding government), OHSU's size contributes to its ability to provide many services and community support activities not found anywhere else in the state. It serves more than 184,000 patients, and is a conduit for learning for more than 3,900 students and trainees. OHSU is the source of more than 200 community outreach programs that bring health and education services to each county in the state.
