Free Cervical Cancer Screenings at OHSU Center for Women’s Health
08/21/09 Portland, OR
The Free Screening Program at OHSU offers 25 free screening appointments each month on a first-come, first-served basis. Screenings are by appointment only; call 503 346-1212 to make an appointment or for more information.
“A Pap test can detect small changes in the cervix. Usually these small changes, or abnormal cells, are not cancerous but if left untreated some may develop into cervical cancer. Cervical screenings can identify changes in a woman’s body even when there are no symptoms to warn when something is wrong,” explained Michelle Berlin, M.D., M.P.H., vice chair of obstetrics and gynecology, OHSU School of Medicine; and associate director, OHSU Center for Women's Health.
The free cervical screening appointment includes a Pap test, clinical breast exam and pelvic exam for SCREENING purposes only. No other medical care or treatment is offered through the Free Screening Program. Women with current breast or cervical concerns should call the Oregon Breast and Cervical Cancer Program at 1-877-255-7070. Women with other medical conditions should call 1-800-SAFENET to talk about other community resources that may be available. For information about financial assistance programs at OHSU, contact Patient Registration at 503-494-8505.
WHEN: Appointments are available throughout the month until filled (25 slots total). If all appointment slots are filled for the current month, patients should try again the first Wednesday of the following month, when 25 new slots will be available.
