OHSU Doernbecher Patient Named Oregon Children's Miracle Network Champion

05/07/10  Portland, Ore.

Seven-year-old Daniel Shore will visit Capitol Hill to share his remarkable medical experience with Children’s Miracle Network’s program champions from around the nation

Children’s Miracle Network and Walmart have named an Oregon Health & Science University Doernbecher Children's Hospital patient a "champion" for Oregon.

Daniel Shore, 7, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at age 18 months, will join child ambassadors, called champions, from every state as part of the Children’s Miracle Network program "Champions presented by Walmart and Sam’s Club." The program brings attention to the important work being done at children’s hospitals by honoring remarkable children like Daniel who have triumphed despite severe medical challenges.

Daniel and his fellow champions will travel for two weeks as a representative of the 17 million children treated at Children’s Miracle Network hospitals each year throughout the United States. The champions will first travel to Washington, D.C., in June where they will visit the White House and Capitol Hill to share their courageous and inspiring stories, then to Orlando, Fla., in November for the Children’s Miracle Network Celebration event at Walt Disney World Resort.

Since 1987 Children’s Miracle Network and Walmart have worked together to raise money for children’s hospitals. This year Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, customers and members are celebrating having contributed more than $500 million to children’s hospitals since the inception of their partnership, with more than $3 million of those funds benefiting Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in Oregon.

This is the second year Walmart and Sam’s Club have sponsored the champions program.
